The new ACCIÓ (Agency for Business Competitivity of Catalonia) report of 2022, endorsed by the Catalan Government, shows an increase of 6.3% of startups compared to 2021, reaching more than 2000 emerging companies for the first time ever.

According to the report, Barcelona is consolidated as the fifth startup hub in the European Union, only after cities such as Paris, Berlin, Stockholm and Amsterdam. Moreover, another key point of this phenomenon is the investments’ attraction, which has achieved a total of 1,653 million euros in Catalonia, as well as the technological impact caused by startups due to their proximity to cutting-edge technology sectors.

Key figures of Catalan startups:

  • 86% increase in startups since 2016 (first analysis)
  • Turnover of 1,720 million euros
  • Occupation of 19,100 people
  • 76% of companies have less than 10 workers (2022)
  • 76% of companies work with technologies linked to industry 4.0
  • 23% of workers are foreigners
  • 19% of founders are foreigners
  • Barcelona is the 2nd favorite hub for founders

TBSeeds, our incubator

This is great news for TBS Education-Barcelona in order to encourage our students to release their projects in a safe and supportive environment, especially since the relocation of our new campus at the 22@ district, where many Catalan startups are placed, as well as international companies. Thus, one of our most remarkable initiatives is TBSeeds, which is an incubator that allows our students to develop their projects advised by professionals and entrepreneurs.
