So you have a few days off and you’re staying in Barcelona?

Never fear, whether you like Easter or not, Barcelona and its surroundings offer a wide variety of activities for you to enjoy during your holiday.

Time Out magazine has many suggestions, from getaways that are just half an hour from Barcelona (to places as interesting as Sitges, Montgat and the Colonia Güell), to the 10 best beaches in Catalonia. Or you could attend one of the religious events that take place at this time of the year in iconic settings like the Cathedral of Barcelona.

April also happens to fall within calçots season. So, what better way to take advantage of a few relaxation days than experiencing a delicious calçotada?

Another traditional product of Catalonia, which is also related to gastronomy, is the Easter Mona, a cake that godparents give to their godchildren on Easter Monday. There are many kinds of Monas to try, but the most common and simple is made with a base of sponge cake and decorated with chocolate figures that please the little ones.

We recommend that you take some time to peruse the bakery windows as you wander the streets of Barcelona. You will find real works of art!

If you would like to prepare a Mona yourself, you can find a simple traditional recipe here.
