Master students from the Fast Moving Consumer Goods group, made up of students from the Master in Management and MSc Marketing Management, visited the Covides winery on 9 December. This visit was also attended by the MSc Fashion & Luxury Marketing group last month. The students travelled to Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, a town known for its landscape of vineyards and wineries, where they were welcomed by Christophe Marquet, Commercial Director of the Covides vineyards. This company was born “from the desire of wine growers from across the Penedès region to make wines and cavas“, and has three facilities distributed by Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Vilafranca del Penedès and Sant Cugat del Vallès.

Accompanied by Professor Valérie Lamy, the students attended a presentation of the company, to learn more about its characteristics and products. Christophe Marquet quoted Josep Mª Galimany, Head of Viticulture, to reflect the winery’s philosophy: “Covides’ farming style is based on the principles of sustainable agriculture, where we prioritise the use of biologic products over conventional ones”. He showed the different cavas and wines they offer, which reach the highest levels certified by the International Food Standard (IFS), a common food safety standard.

The visit continued with a guided tour of the Covides facilities, through the laboratory and warehouse, to the production chain. There, they could observe live how the bottles are treated and stored, which will then be marketed around the world. In fact, Covides exports more than 65% of its production of bottles, which are distributed in more than 40 countries. Finally, it was the turn to taste some of these cavas and wines, and to buy them in the shop, if the students so wished.
