Today we introduce Marc McAuliffe, a graduate of TBS’ MSc Digital Transformation and Business Innovation program. Marc’s thesis on smart city solutions reflects his practical approach to blending theory with real-world insights.
How would you describe your one-year program at TBS Education?
The one-year program at TBS provided me with a comprehensive and immersive educational experience. It combined theoretical and practical components which have equipped me with both academic insights and real-world skills imperative for success in my field.
Was it a theoretical or practical program?
The program seamlessly integrated both theoretical and practical components. In addition to exploring the theoretical foundations of digital transformation, there was also a strong emphasis on applying this learned knowledge through hands-on projects, case studies, and consulting missions. This ensured a well-rounded learning experience.
What was your master thesis about?
My Master thesis focused on unlocking the potential of smart city solutions and explored effective strategies for citizen adoption. We have learned how to harness the power of innovation to address pressing challenges and enhance quality of life in cities; however, understanding the dynamics of citizen adoption is imperative to its success. During my research, I conducted interviews with leading policymakers and stakeholders in Barcelona, a city at the forefront of smart urban development. These discussions provided invaluable insights into the minds of those leading the transformation to smarter cities, and enriching my research with practical perspectives and real-world experiences. Conducting this research made for a fulfilling journey and allowed me to extensively investigate a subject I’m extremely passionate about. Additionally, it allowed me to make valuable contributions to the academic community.
How do you see yourself in the future?
In the future, I envision myself at the forefront of digital transformation, leveraging the expertise and skills I gained during my time at TBS Education. With a solid foundation in digital technologies and strategic business practices, I aspire to lead impactful initiatives that drive organisational growth and adaptation in an ever-evolving digital landscape. Whether it is pioneering disruptive technologies, fostering a culture of innovation within organisations, or spearheading digital transformation initiatives, I see myself playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of business. I am committed to continuous learning and professional development, and keeping abreast of the latest trends and best practices in digital transformation. By embracing change, lifelong learning, and staying true to my passion for innovation, I am confident in my ability to make meaningful and positive contributions to the business world and society as a whole.
