Barcelona continues to rise as a leading destination for digital professionals, with new figures from the Digital Talent Overview 2025 revealing impressive growth in the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) sector. Since the report’s inception in 2018, over 62,000 new ICT specialists have joined the city’s workforce.
Barcelona mirrors the broader European trend, where one in four new jobs is digital. Across Europe, the number of ICT professionals has soared by 56.7% over the past decade, far outpacing the general job growth rate of 9.1%. The continent now boasts over 10.2 million digital experts.
Locally, the picture is even more dynamic. ICT job growth in Barcelona has outpaced the general labor market by six, with the city’s overall job market growing just 0.96% in 2024. This makes Barcelona one of Europe’s most fertile grounds for digital careers.
Gender diversity is improving, with women now representing nearly 32% of ICT professionals in the city—a nine-point increase since 2018. Today, one in three new digital professionals is a woman.
Women are increasingly present in fields such as:
However, gender disparity remains in technical areas like:
Barcelona’s appeal reaches far beyond its borders. Around 32.6% of ICT professionals in the city hail from outside Catalonia, highlighting its position as a global hub for innovation and technology. Since 2018, the city has welcomed over 42,000 international digital specialists, including nearly 2,000 in 2024 alone. London ranks as the top source of foreign ICT talent, accounting for 12% of arrivals.
While international professionals dominate in areas such as digital marketing, big data, and UX/UI design, local talent remains strong and deeply rooted in the region’s educational pipeline.
A robust academic infrastructure underpins Barcelona’s growing talent pool. In the 2023–2024 academic year, over 21,500 students enrolled in university programs related to ICT in Catalonia. Vocational training is also on the rise, with 18,425 students pursuing ICT qualifications in 2024—double the number from eight years ago.
