The Spain Audiovisual Hub has released its Third Annual Report on the Audiovisual Sector in Spain (2025), confirming that Spain’s creative industries are experiencing an exceptional moment of growth.
The Spanish audiovisual ecosystem is now a strategic driver of the economy and culture, strengthened by digitalisation, international expansion, and the public policies of the Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe Plan.
Between 2021 and 2024, the industry recorded unprecedented economic and technological progress, positioning Spain among Europe’s leading producers in film, animation, OTT, and gaming.
Spanish cinema has achieved a remarkable recovery: box office revenues doubled between 2021 and 2024, reaching €484.6 million.Spain now stands as the second-largest film-producing country in Europe, with 376 feature films and 652 short films produced in 2024.
Television also remains a fundamental pillar of the industry, with revenues reaching €1.47 billion, boosted by advertising and pay-TV. Moreover, 64% of Spanish households now own a connected Smart TV, a clear sign of the shift towards digital consumption.
The OTT market has become one of the industry’s biggest success stories, with revenues tripling to €3.4 billion in 2024.
The animation and VFX sector continues to thrive as well, surpassing €600 million in turnover and employing more than 5,800 professionals across Spain.
The video games industry, home to over 22 million active players, also demonstrates strong growth — with a rising number of female gamers and a booming eSports ecosystem generating €44 million in revenues and a growing base of sponsors and investors.
Extended Reality (XR) and the metaverse are no longer futuristic concepts. They are reshaping Spain’s audiovisual landscape.
In 2024, the sector reached €876 million, marking a 60% increase since 2022.
