We are glad to invite you to a talk titled “Hombres, mujeres y otros trabajos”, which translates to “Men, women and other jobs” in English. The sociologist and expert on gender and sexuality, Miguel Missé, will discuss this topic. It will be an occasion for reflection on gender norms and how they affect our daily lives. The conference will be conducted fully in Spanish, but it is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish listening skills—or perhaps learn a new word!
📅 Date: March 5th⏰ Time: 18:30 h📍 Place: Aula Magna🌍 Language: Spanish. 🔗 Registration is mandatory
The main concept to discuss will be “passing” a slang term in the trans community to describe when a person is immediately identified as a different gender from the one they identify with instead of the sex they were assigned at birth. But, beyond this definition, the word “passing” also helps us to think about how everyone, not just trans people, interacts with gender norms and how this affects our daily lives.
Miguel Missé is a sociologist and advisor on gender and sexuality topics. He has worked on some investigations and projects related to gender diversity and has published essays on the topic. Some of his notable works highlight A la conquista del cuerpo equivocado (lit. Conquering the wrong body) and Ni macho ni hembra (lit. Neither male nor female). He, also is a collaborator in the radio program of the Catalan broadcast Rac 1 called Vostè primer (lit. You first) hosted by Marc Giró.
