Spain currently stands out as the fastest-growing economy in the entire Eurozone, driven mainly by the rapid expansion of its green industries. From renewable energy production to sustainable infrastructure projects, Spain’s commitment to environmental innovation is playing a central role in powering its economic resurgence. The country’s strategic investments in clean technologies and low-carbon solutions are not only creating new jobs and industries. Still, they are also strengthening its global competitiveness in the transition toward a sustainable future.

In a significant step that reinforces this commitment, Spain has officially become the 14th member of the First Movers Coalition (FMC) — a leading decarbonization initiative launched by the World Economic Forum. By joining this influential group, Spain is aligning its economic momentum with a powerful international effort to accelerate the global phase-out of fossil fuels and drive transformative climate action. This membership represents both a symbolic and practical contribution: Spain is leveraging its economic success to help push forward ambitious climate goals on the world stage.

The First Movers Coalition currently brings together more than 100 member organizations, including governments and major private-sector companies, united by a shared commitment to decarbonize seven of the world’s most carbon-intensive industrial sectors. These sectors — which include steel, cement, aluminum, shipping, aviation, trucking, and chemicals — are responsible for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions. The coalition’s ambitious target is to collectively reduce CO₂ emissions by 26 million tonnes within this decade, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable industrial landscape.

Spain’s participation signals a clear message: economic growth and climate leadership can go hand in hand. By integrating green innovation with international collaboration, the country is positioning itself as a key player in shaping a low-carbon global economy.
